“I think my passion for creating clothing began as I sat on my Grandfathers knee while he was operating the treadle sewing machine. I was about 9 years old when I took one of my older sisters discarded “poodle skirts ” and “chopped it up” up with my Grandfathers wallpaper scissors, into a vague bodice & skirt shape, found an old zipper in his sewing box and proceeded to sew the bits together.
Years later found me at the Oxford Poly Technical college taking a course in Dress and Design.
After emigrating to Canada in 1969, I discovered the thrill of costuming for the stage at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Fabrics galore were at my disposal, talented Costume designers demanding creativity.
What a wonderful world I had discovered.
I worked in this world for over 35 years , in many Theatres across the country, creating historical and modern costumes for Theatre, Opera, Ballet and Film. It was an amazing and gratifying career.
I now work from my own studio creating clothing and costumes for whoever requires them. My new passion is restoring old sofa’s, chairs and lampshades to their former glory. Fabric and creation is still in my soul.”
